Folders and drag & drop

Chatsavo folders live only in the extension: they change nothing on the AI site and don't interfere with ChatGPT or Claude projects. Each chat sits in one folder.

Create a folder

• Top-level folder: New folder in the panel header → name → Create.
• Subfolder: open the folder's menu (three dots right of its name, or right-click) → Subfolder.

Folders nest up to 5 levels, e.g. "Clients → Acme → Contracts → 2026 → Drafts". Nested folders are a Pro feature; they're available during the trial.

File a chat

Three ways — use whichever suits you.

Drag from the site's native list

Grab a chat in ChatGPT's or Claude's own list and drag it onto a folder in the Chatsavo panel. The folder highlights and a hint appears: "Drop to put into '…'". Let go, and you'll see "Done: 'chat title' → folder".

This works even for chats you haven't opened yet.

The Move to… button in the native list

Hover over a chat in the site's list: a small folder button appears on the right. Click it and pick a folder. Handy on a laptop trackpad, where dragging is awkward.

From the Chatsavo panel

• Drag a chat from "Recent", "No folder" or another folder onto the target folder.
• Or open the chat's menu (three dots or right-click) → Move to….

Remove a chat from a folder

Chat menu → Move to… → Remove from folder. Or drag the chat onto the "No folder" section. The chat doesn't go anywhere; it just returns to the unfiled list.

Pin a chat

Chat menu → Pin. The chat appears under "Pinned" above your folders and stays in its folder too. To undo, choose Unpin.

Rename or delete a folder

Folder menu → Rename or Delete.

When you delete, Chatsavo asks: "Delete folder '…'? Its chats stay and move to 'No folder'." That's exactly what happens: only the folder goes; the chats stay in the panel, and of course on the AI site.

"This site" and "All sites"

The switch under the search field controls which chats appear in folders:

• This site — only chats from the site you're on;
• All sites — chats from every site. Each chat's badge shows where it's from.

One folder can hold both ChatGPT and Claude chats — say, "Acme" with every conversation about that client, wherever it happened.

Limits

If you have more folders than the limit (for example, you made them during the trial), they all stay and keep working: you can file chats into them, rename and delete them. You just can't create a new one while you have more than five. More in Plans and the trial.

Common questions

The folder doesn't highlight while dragging. Make sure you drop the chat right on the folder's row. If the site recently changed its layout, dragging from the native list may stop working for a while — use the Move to… button and see troubleshooting.

"Folders can be nested up to 5 levels." You're trying to create a sixth level. Move some folders up.
